When an arbitrator first ruled that MSU Mankato should never have fired Todd Hoffner, and that he could get his job back, I didn't expect him to take it.But, as you know by now, he did, announcing at an emotional press conference Tuesday in Minneapolis that he will be returning to work in Mankato, today. By the time you read this, he may be on the field for a Maverick spring practice.Obviously, this truly bizarre situation raises more questions than it answers. What happens to Aaron Keen, the interim coach who went 24 2 with two NSIC titles in two years guiding the team? Who becomes Minot State's next coach? Mike Aldrich? Will Mankato's athletic director and/or president lose their job?How can Hoffner go back to work under those two men when his attorney is openly calling for them to be fired? Can this situation possibly, somehow, be made to work? Hoffner is going back to a New Balance Sneakers Online
day, he was pulled off the practice field, and we all know what happened from there. Two years of hell.Much as he might like to, Hoffner can't erase the last two years from his memory bank, 'Eternal Sunshine' style, but the next closest thing to deleting the last two years is to go back to where things were that day when he was pulled off the field in the middle of practice. This is how he does that.Going to Minot certainly was a better alternative to being unemployed, but even then, he would have been undertaking a significant building process, while his former assistant likely continued to lead the Mavericks to national prominence. He would be constantly reminded of how that was the program he built, and how it was taken away from him through no fault of his own.Literally, no fault of his own (and no, being a less than likeable person, as some in Mankato have quietly alleged of Hoffner, is not a New Balance Encap Grey valid reason for him to have lost his job, even if true).Bottom line: Going back to Mankato is the only way that Hoffner gets his old life back. It's how he truly gets justice. If he stays at Minot State, Mankato still, on some level, wins. They get their way. Yes, they'd have to pay back the money he lost, make up the difference in salary, etc., but when you consider the way that the school continued to try to push Hoffner out the door even after the charges were dropped, it's not hard to surmise that they simply wanted him gone, even though, again, he hadn't done anything. He's telling them, by coming back, 'No, you can't get rid of me.'Let's not forget that the Hoffners still live in Mankato. His wife works there. His kids go to school there. Going to Minot meant uprooting the whole family, selling a house and buying a new one. Keeping his Mankato job means they all get to stay put. That's no small thing, and people criticizing Hoffner's decision should know better than to act like it is.Yes, this has the potential to hurt some others, notably Keen, players caught in the middle, and those in Minot who were elated to have a Division II playoff coach fall into their laps. I feel sorry for them.Honestly, I don't think I'd have made the decision Hoffner did. But I'm in no position to say he did the wrong thing, and I don't think anyone else is, either. This is an unprecedented situation. There's no guidebook on how to rebuild one's life and career from scandal when they never did anything wrong in the first place.I New Balance Gold And White Cleats
job where his employers have not only made it quite clear they don't want him to be their coach, but they also played a significant role in dragging him through a scandal that nearly ruined his life and career. All of that will be played out over the next year. I don't really think Tuesday's announcement brings any closure to this situation. You know what it does bring, though? Justice.A lot of people are surprised that Hoffner chose to go back to Mankato, and a lot of people in Minot are, understandably, feeling somewhat betrayed. In light of what he's been through over the last two years, I feel like those who are questioning Hoffner's character or taking his decision personally are a little out of line. That said, it's fair for those in Minot to feel as though they're being left holding the bag, especially if, as reported, Hoffner notified them of his decision via email 15 minutes before Tuesday's press conference. Not exactly a graceful exit. The Beavers took a chance on Hoffner, and while he thanked them earnestly on Tuesday, he ultimately chose not to reward them for giving him that chance. The statement relaesed by the Beavers Tuesday wished Hoffner well, but clearly stated they'd been led to believe he would be staying regardless of the ruling on his grievance.Still, people who are shocked or offended by Hoffner's decision are failing to see this from his position. He was the coach of Minnesota State University's football team. He was very good at it. Then one New Balance Concepts Trailbuster

don't think any of us can truly grasp what the last two years have been like for Todd Hoffner, and as such, I don't think any of us have a right to question the decision he made Tuesday.
